Excess wax can cause muffled hearing, discomfort, tinnitus, or dizziness. We offer the two safest methods, tailored to your ears.
Gentle suction under magnification — no water, low infection risk, precise & comfortable. Ideal for most patients, including those who have had previous ear surgery or have sensitive ears.
Your audiologist reviews your medical history and examines the ear canal with an otoscope.
We assess the type and volume of wax and confirm microsuction is the right treatment.
Wax is carefully removed using a gentle suction device under direct visualisation throughout.
We provide personalised advice on maintaining ear health and preventing future blockages.
Warm sterile water flush for softer wax — effective & gentle when clinically suitable. During irrigation, warm water is gently introduced into the ear canal to loosen and flush wax out. The ear canal is re-checked after treatment.
Your clinician will advise whether microsuction or irrigation is the most suitable method for your ears.
Use olive oil drops 3–5 days prior to your appointment to soften the wax. This makes removal easier and more comfortable. Please inform us of any ear perforations or previous ear surgery.
Yes — microsuction is the safest method available. It uses no water, reducing infection risk, and is performed under direct vision throughout. It is suitable for most patients including those with sensitive ears.
If after a thorough clinical examination no wax is found to be causing your symptoms, a £25 examination fee applies. We will always advise you of our findings and recommend appropriate next steps.
